About Tzit Tzit Pattern
Five strands of hemp cord, doubled over to create ten tassel strands, represent the Ten Commandments. These strands are wrapped
with the following letters:
-
Yod
10 -
Hey
5 -
Vav
6 -
Hey
5
These letters represent 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄’s Shem, signifying that 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 surrounds and protects us in His Name (Tehillim
125:2; Yochanan 17:11). Between each wrapping of the letters of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄’s Name are two knots.
These two knots represent the two greatest commandments upon which all of the Torah hangs, according to 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏, as well as
representing Ephraim and Judah (Matt. 22:37-39).
